Barracuda
The great barracuda is a fierce looking predator that lives and hunts primarily alone. He is a curious fish, and is very common to the shallow waters in Florida.
He is very distinct in his shape and body due to the elongated torpedo-like torso and very large mouth.
He has extremely long and sharp teeth and a notched tail.
Barracuda have large black blotches on their bodies which are also very flat.
They weigh about 30 pounds and grow to be about 5-6 feet in length, but are fiercer in their temperament than many sharks.
The Great Barracuda feeds on shrimp and any number of other fish, and is primarily a feeder of reefs.
The Barracuda is most assuredly at the top of the predator chain.
Although fierce fish, they great barracuda will only rarely attack humans even when they are swimming. When they do, they will strike only once, a very rapid fierce strike which is usually very serious but is not often fatal.
Normally Barracuda are attracted to things that are silvery in color, have a high reflection and are akin to the fish they eat, so it is surmised that the attacks are barracuda who have supposed that the earrings or bracelet worn by a swimmer is a meal.
Any type jewelry or reflective swimwear should always be avoided when swimming in the habitat that supports the barracuda.
Barracuda are usually near the surface of the water, although they have been seen and recorded at depths of 100 meters, or about 90 feet.
Smaller juveniles will often gather near shallow sheltered reefs, and will range into murky harbors, while adults will venture to open sea. Barracuda are diurnal.

Its amazing. I like it very much.
i really like this , i was in hurgada and i saw three of them next to me and they really behave normally and they didn’t attack me (thanks god).
althought i saw it before , it’s the first time to know these valuable information.
in my opinion if you know more about the sea creatures, you will be able to deal with them correctly so you won’t get hurt from any of these .
Thanks Its nature. I got what I wanted. Its fantastic!

I came upon a barracuda while snorkling off of St. Thomas, USVI last week. It was only about two feet long but it did have a menancing look to it. That plus a grill of sharp teeth caused me to give it a wide berth.

Some years ago, when I was in my 20’s I rescued what looked very much like a Barracuda in Tenerife in March. It was about 5-6 feet long and had the long head with lots of lethal teeth that would have loved to take a bite out of me (and tried). It also had the large fan like fin on it’s back which was damaged, it looked like a wind surfer or jet ski may have caught it. Do Barracuda live round Tenerife and if not does anyone know what it could have been. My Dad and Husband were sure it was a Barracuda.
this will tear u up.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t 100 meters 330 feet, not 90 as stated which is it.
Anyhow, DO NOT EVER, AND I MEAN EVER SPEAR A 4’+ BARRACUDA, THEY GET MAD AND ATTACK. Its not funny unless your in the boat, and see your buddy swimming very fast toward the boat with a really mad fish being dragged on a 15′ leash behind him trying to eat him.
very delicious tasting fish(fried with persian limes, salt n hot-pepper) & very common in the bahamas(my country)….how-ever, caution must be taken before consuming!…..known to be poison at times!…usually travels in schools!….advise not to eat if caught out-side of schools!….possibility of being poisoned!…..i’ve been a victim on about 2 ocassions!….im getting over it(poisoning) presently!…..effects can be real nasty!
it’s a predator(top of the food-chain)….very rarely attacks humans!….attracted to silvery objects that are high in reflection!….watches, chains, rings n even spears!……dont wear when swimming or spear-fishing if high in reflection or make-sure they(jewelry) are covered if worn!….also known to attack n consume fish that has been sporn with a silvery spear!….just pay strict attention but dont panic!
wow… amazing
