Also Known as the Madagascar CockRoach or the Hissing Cockroach.

Cockroaches are omnivores.

A single exception is the wood eating cockroach that is found in Russia and China.

Cockroaches breathe trough a system of tubes, which are called Tracheae, which is close to the word that describes human breathing.

Theirs are attached to something called a spiracle that opens on the side of the body segments, every one of them except the head segment.

When CO2 becomes in intolerable value, the valve will open and bring oxygen in and permit the co2 to escape.

Most insects do not have muscular lungs and as such do not breath actively like the cockroach does.

Cockroaches are incredibly hardy. They can survive many months with no food and also can survive being beheaded for a very long period of time. Being unable to eat or care for them is what actively kills the cockroach, not losing its head.

Female cockroaches are sometimes seen carrying egg cases on their abdomenwhich can hold as many as forty eggs.

They had from the pressure of the small ones inside gulping for air and when they do the hatchlings emerge as bright white.

Within a few hours they harden and darken in color.
A female can drop the capsule nearly anywhere. To go from nymph to adult takes the small roaches about four months.

Cockroaches live up to a year. The female can produce over 400 offspring in her lifetime.
Giant cockroaches may lay up to 100 eggs at a time.

They make excellent pets because they are hardy, do not bit or sting, and make an entertaining hissing noise, which is made by the air escaping from their openings.

The world’s largest cockroach is the Australian which can grow to 9 cm in length and weigh more than 30grams Close to this in size is the Giant, which is about as long but not as heavy.
